Proposed Strategies for PAM Council Year 2001-2002
The following strategies for PAM Council Year 2001-2002
were presented by the President; Tan Pei Ing to the Council
during the 1st Council meeting held on 28th September 2001
and was adopted by Council in principle for implementation.
The respective Committees would be planning the programmers
and projects based on the strategies established:-
STRATEGY 1:
TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATION WITH MEMBERS
- To have regular dialogues with members to hear their
views and problems relating to practice, professional exams
etc.
- To have dialogues with the 4 Chapters at the beginning
of the Council year to establish common issues/objectives
and to identify which are specific to each Chapter. This
is also to enhance communication with the Chapters. Each
of this dialogue could be planned with a CPD lecture or
workshop on a selected topic.
- To bridge the gap between younger and older members and
among different interest groups (i.e., youth, women, academicians,
government sector architects etc). Special sections under
Membership Committee to be created and key people of each
of this section to be identified to head the respective
sections to provide a closer link to the Institute and Council.
Activities and programmers planned shall cater for a larger
membership and there should not be segregation of members.
- To disseminate information on PAM to all members. An
executive summary of the action/decisions taken at each
Council meeting shall be published in 'Berita Akitek' by
the first week of the following month. To explore whether
the full set of minutes could be posted on the notice board
in PAM, PAM website and also at the respective Chapter offices.
- To look at the mechanism of allowing observers at Council
meetings.
STRATEGY 2:
TO UPGRADE THE CORE COMPETENCY, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PROFESSIONALISM
OF MEMBERS
- More comprehensive and aggressive CPD programmers, seminars,
lectures and talks. Emphasis to be given to practice related
topics such as building contracts, certifications, etc.
(Videotaping or CDs of the CPDs and lecture to be sent to
Chapter and some of these could be organized to be conducted
for Chapters)
STRATEGY 3:
TO PLAN PROJECTS AND PROGRAMMES TO BENEFIT ALL LEVELS OF
MEMBERSHIP
- Finalize the Minor Works Contract
- Drafting of Design and Build Contract
- Promotion of PAM 98 Contract through workshops, review
of PAM 98 Contract taking into consideration the shortfalls
encountered and feedback from members and preparation of
standard Proforma.
- Practice Notes

- To hold workshops on ISO 9000 for the members and to
assist members in the procedure to attain ISO 9000 accreditation
- To continue programmers for intellectual discourse such
as the International Design Discourse, evening lectures
by local architect and visiting architects from overseas.
STRATEGY 4:
TO RE-INFORCE THE ARCHITECT'S LEADERSHIP POSITION IN THE
BUILDING
INDUSTRY THROUGH GREATER REPRESENTATION IN POLICY MAKING
BODIES
- To continue and to be actively represented in Government
bodies and agencies
- To establish closer working relationship with the Ministry
of Housing & Local Government, Ministry of Works and
CIDB. Courtesy calls to be made by Council to all these
bodies
- To foster closer working relationship with other parties
of the building industry and to address common issues affecting
the building industry PAM should continue to play a more
active and key role in the Building Industry Roundtable
which was first initiated PAM.
- To promote the image of the architectural profession
and to raise the profile and the image through community
outreach programmers, working with the House Buyers Association
and greater exposure in public media
- To respond expediently to issues raised in the media
on building and environmental issues.
- To reestablish ties and working relationship with LAM
(i.e. Joint Examination, Part III discourse and joint meetings).
STRATEGY 5:
TO IMPROVE PAM'S FACILITIES TO BETTER SERVE MEMBERS
- To recruit more staff as per the PAM Strategic Plan established
previously so that PAM can function more effectively
- To achieve ISO 9000 accreditation for PAM
- To reorganize the spaces at Jalan Tangsi so that the
PAM Centre is more conducive to members (i.e. Proper reception,
resource centre etc)
- To review facilities to be provided
- To review the mailing system including mails and channels
of communication between Council members and PAM Secretariat
so that issues can be addressed and actions can be taken
more effectively.

use
