Synopsis:

Paper 1: "Understanding Green Purchasing Concepts and Strategies in the Building Industry"

Sustainability has become a keyword in many industries including that of construction and the built environment. The notion of what is green and what is not has grown significantly more complicated in the past decade. The advent of various categorisation and labelling schemes has, more often that, baffled architects, engineers and other specifiers all over the world. This paper plans to give an overview of the key points in understanding concepts and issues behind such decisions and the related tools involved as to make better selection of materials and purchases.

Paper 2: "Implementing Sustainable Strategies in Building Design and Construction : Green Warfare"

Over 50 million feet square of built up area has now been registered for GBI certification. This paper explores the intricacies of getting the sustainable strategies adopted in relation to the experience of the speaker leading to GBI certification. Examples ranges from GBI Platinum Building to the Certified Buildings under various GBI Tools. The paper will also deliberate the most common traps when credit chasing and green washing, and how to sell green and sustainable ideas to the stakeholders of the building.
