PAM Travel Scholarship Award 2019

PAM Travel Scholarship Award 2019 (formerly known as PAM Travel & Research Scholarship) is open to current open to all full-time Malaysian students, studying Architecture at Institute of higher learning in Malaysian only.


The purpose of this scholarship is to provide an opportunity for Architecture students enrolled in an accredited and non-accredited Malaysia Institution of higher learning to engage in an individual self-designed and directed international travel experience on a research topic for periods ranging from one (1) week to one (1) month.


Only two (2) scholarships worth RM5,000 each to selected students on the basis of a competitive written application and committee interview. The award is meant to subsidize travel expenditures during the students’ research.


Open to all countries (except those unrecognized by the Malaysian government), students are, however, encouraged to make visits/studies in South East Asia (SEA) or the Asian region e.g. Indonesia, China, and Cambodia, etc. Students are expected to conduct a literature review on the country/countries intended to visit/study.


Student is eligible to receive the scholarship only once during his/her period of studies in the architecture program. All applicants must be current student members of PAM student. Students in the final years are not encouraged. At the time of application for the scholarship, the student must have completed at least one year of study at the said institution.


The application form should be attached with the following documents and clearly stating;

  • The objective of study
  • The proposed area of study
  • The scope of study
  • The significance of the study
  • The expected benefits of the study
  • The proposed itinerary
  • The proposed budget
  • One page summary of the visit/research
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • A letter of recommendation from the Head of Department stating the applicant’s student status.


Shortlisted candidates may be required to attend an interview session, to be determined by PAM. PAM reserves the right to impose any other conditions on the award as it may deem fit.


Within one (1) calendar month of returning to Malaysia, the recipient of the scholarship is required to submit a report of his/her study visit to PAM through the head of department.

The report shall be in English and Bahasa Malaysia of about 2500 to 3000 words. The architecture (of varied typology, hierarchy, significance, and forms.

What these experiences meant to them (as students of architecture) with sketches, diagrams and photographs and any advice they might wish to share for the benefit of future recipients of the grant for PAMs publication

The head of the department or school shall be held responsible to ensure that the student submits the report. In the event the report is not submitted, the school shall not be considered for the next scholarship and presentation (multimedia, etc) for the school and PAM to be presented at relevant events.


Anticipated travel to begin in the next succeeding 12 months. Applicants for this scholarship are expected to submit together with the application, a research proposal including an itemized proposed budget for the total expenditure of the planned travel.

The grant does not support the purchase of durable items such as bicycles, camping equipment, cameras, etc.

All arrangements for travel, subsistence, insurance, lodging and other expenditures incidental to travel are the sole responsibility of the student.

The scholarship recipients must maintain a travelogue/vblog (YouTube/Blog/Facebook/Instagram/Twitter) with hashtags #pamtravelscholarship during his travel and link it to PAM website and other social media pages (Facebook/Instagram).
