Children Art Competition 2017

In conjunction with World Heritage Day Celebration 2017 the Malaysian National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS Malaysia) intends to raise awareness about Malaysia’s long forgotten traditional games among our children through Children Art Competition 2017. This year themed is ‘Permainan Tradisi’ or “Traditional Games”. The competition will be held as follows:

Date: Sunday, 16 April 2017
Time: 9.30am – 12.30pm

The art competition will run concurrently at venues:

  1. Balai Seni Visual Negara at Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur
  2. Dataran Sungai Melaka, Jalan Quayside, Banda Hilir, Melaka
  3. Armenian Park, Lebuh Armenian, Pulau Pinang

UIA Press Release: 3 invited participants for a competition in Colombo City


CHEC Port City Colombo Limited, a subsidiary of China Harbour Engineering Company, has launched an invited, single stage ideas competition for the longterm development of an innovative urban settlement adjoining the Colombo Fort to the East and Colombo South International Container Harbour to the North. The competition was launched on 6 March 2017 with the support of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and the International Union of Architects. Finnish architect Trevor Harris will represent the UIA on the international jury.

The competition is a single-phase procedure with three invited participants, whose work will be evaluated anonymously according to the UNESCO Regulations for architecture competitions:

  • Gensler
  • Nikken Sekkei
  • Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM)


The winner of the competition will be awarded 150 000 USD in addition to the sum of 150 000 USD provided to all three participants over the course of the competition.

Speaker's Biography

Ar Amzar received a scholarship to further his studies in the UK and spent 8 years to finish with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture Studies and Diploma in Architecture from Liverpool Polytechnic. He returned to Malaysia in 1984 and started his career as an architect with Perunding Alam Bina. He was made a director in 1991 and retired from the firm in 2005 where he then formed his current practice of ArAHDESIGN Partnership in February 2006.

A member of PAM since 1985, he was elected as a Fellow in 2011. Ar. Amzar has been active in the various PAM committees since 2006 and was in the PAM Council for 3 terms, the last term as PAM Honorary Treasurer in 2013-2014. He had served as PAM representative in the Majlis Akreditasi Pengajian Senibina Malaysia ( MAPSM ) and served as a panel of assessor for the Parts I & II as well as Part III LAM Exams. Ar Amzar has also participated as an external reviewer of the various Architecture programs in Malaysia.

With over 30 years of experience in practice, he was involved in various projects from residential, commercial, industrial, hospitals, universities and masterplanning projects for the Government and private sectors. Projects he was involved in had received the PAM Award and the PAM Steel Award. His interest is also in planning and landscape, with a wide and varied experience in the design, documentation and implementation of TV, Broadcasting & Film Production facilities as well as auditorias and theatres. Some of the major masterplanning studies he was involved in include Kuala Lumpur Sentral Masterplan, PUTRAJAYA Development Masterplan, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Masterplan, Bertam Perdana Masterplan and Lestari Perdana Masterplan. He has also travelled to the UK, Europe, USA, Japan and Australia on study tours of various developments.
