PAM 2002 Awards for Excellence Architecture

The PAM Awards, inaugurated in 1986, is the premier award for architecture in recognition of excellence in the country's architecture. In so doing, the awards promote good architecture to the public.
The Awards include the following categories: Single Residential; Repetitive Residential (including terraced houses, condominiums and apartments); Industrial, Commercial; Public And Civic; Conservation And Adaptive Reuse; Hotels And Resorts; Recreational And Sports; Planning; Urban Design as well as Interior Design. There is also the Jury Special Awards to be given by the jurors at their discretion.
Known Malaysian architect, Hijjas Kasturi was the convener for the awards. The panel of five judges consists of four professionals from the local and regional architectural fraternity and a prominent public figure: young Malaysian architect Ang Chee Cheong; Duangrit Bunnag, Vice-President International Affairs of the Association Of Siamese Architects; academician Prof. Ezrin Arbi, Dean of Faculty of Built Environment at University of Malaya; John Ting Kang Chung, President at Singapore Institute of Architects; and representing the public as a laymember judge is Dato' Zawiyah Baba, Director-General of National Library Malaysia.
Three types of awards would be given to the 11 categories - the first is the winner, the second is an honorary mention and the third, a mention - these are the equivalent to gold, silver and bronze medals.
This year, PAM received 123 nominations with 81 submissions that qualified for shortlisting. Twenty-nine entries were shortlisted for
